The main character of this delirious comedy is our great novelist Yiannis Skaribas. His impulsive, anarchistic character and his rebellious and subversive spirit swoops down on the stage and create chaos in a bogged-down and incorrect society in a provincial town, which here happens to be Chalkida. The surreal situations and abundant humor make this comedy simply…explosive.
«…later today the city council, the authorities, the Minister of Law, of Public Order and Disorder should line up outside my residence…As well as, the Minister of Coordination and Incoordination, the Philarmonic Orchestra, the municipal band of both Ano and Kato Petralona, and all the priesthood. And they should prey…To conjure my rage, otherwise your father will be dragged to hell, fire will block your way, and all you Chalkideans will vanish into thin air…”
Skaribas is provocative and subversive by nature. While he thought himself of a clarifier and a person able to explain people’s fate and the meaning of things in life, he decided to become a man of the letters, in order to create his own world and make things right in his own way.
Skariba’s work was just a figment. So was his everyday life. So is WHEN SKARIBAS DECLARED WAR AGAINST CHALKIDA. An arbitrary figment, ignorant of history, resembling a “poetic, skaribean delirium”. |
